The Banana Tree

The Banana Tree is inspired by my struggle to leave home for university and how this was intensified by being a second-generation immigrant. The story is shaped by my Maltese mum’s (misunderstood) childhood memory of trying to keep her banana tree from growing into the neighbour’s garden, and away from her loving reach.

I want my film-making process to be shaped with the foundations of support, collaboration and determination that comes with the theatre. Being creative can be so vulnerable and I passionately believe that this is the only way to achieve everyone’s full potential. The making of The Banana Tree is one of my most incredible memories as a daughter, collaborator and individual and will hopefully be the first of many.
