Beatriz, The Saint Prays

Ursula Nyaboke Gisemba 11:20 Kenya

In this experimental film, we attempt to ‘use Beatriz’s essence’ in deconstructing the Salve Antoniana to create the experience, ‘What would Dona Beatriz say of today?’ This spoken piece breaks down a popular Christian prayer through honest concern, irony and sarcasm to examine its meaning in today’s world.

Gisemba Ursula is an emerging interdisciplinary artist from Kenya, featuring work in audio-visual crafts. She focuses on the analysis, reflection and commentary on evolving Africanicity. She continues to push boundaries and make use of different media to represent her expanding worldview.
