Incorrigible – A Film About Velma Demerson

In 1939, 18 year-old Velma Demerson was jailed for falling in love with a Chinese man. Pregnant and without legal council, she served a year in jail. 60 years later, she sued the government for wrongful incarceration, and fought for the rights of women imprisoned on the grounds of ‘Incorrigibility’.

Karin Lee is a Canadian media artist and filmmaker. Her films are informed by her passion for social justice, identity and community activism. Ms. Lee’s narrative films, experimental videos, documentaries and original webseries have garnered multiple awards including the Canada Award from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
